the
JOURNEY

The Training Ship Amerigo Vespucci is the oldest unit in the Italian Navy, in service since 1931. Thanks to its countless diplomatic and representative activities in ports around the world, the Vespucci is recognized as a true traveling Ambassador of Made in Italy and UNESCO values. This role was further strengthened by the 2023–2025 World Tour, during which the traditional training of Officer Cadets was complemented by an extraordinary experience of cultural exchange and international promotion of Italy and its excellences.

Over 24 months, the Vespucci sailed 49,500 nautical miles, crossing 5 continents, visiting 33 countries and 53 ports. In 17 stops, both in Italy and abroad, the Villaggio Italia/Villaggio IN Italia was set up: a traveling exhibition dedicated to showcasing Italian traditions and talent.

Setting sail on July 1, 2023, the Ship completed its world tour on June 10, 2025, during the Italian Navy Day in the port of Genoa — the same port from which it had departed two years earlier. The city welcomed its return with a memorable event full of music, technology, and emotion, celebrating the conclusion of the World Tour. For the occasion, an exceptional concert was performed for the very first time by the orchestral ensemble “Meravigliosa”, composed of 250 musicians from the Armed Forces and the Guardia di Finanza, joined by the Choir of the Teatro dell’Opera Carlo Felice. The ensemble provided live accompaniment to a six-act immersive screening recounting the ship’s journey through the notes of Italian masterpieces, from Verdi to Morricone.

The evening concluded with a spectacular tribute: 1,750 drones lit up the sky over Genoa with an extraordinary light show, paying homage to the legendary Ship, a symbol of Italian naval tradition and an ambassador of Italy around the world. The luminous choreographies captivated the audience, drawing among many figures a large compass, emblem of navigation, the globe evoking the long journey around the world, the Vespucci’s motto that has always accompanied its history, and finally, the logo of the World Tour, thus sealing in a truly evocative way the conclusion of an unprecedented adventure.
