Fanfara of the 3rd Carabinieri Regiment “Lombardia”
The evolution of the Carabinieri Fanfara dates back to 1820, a few years after the creation of the Royal Carabinieri Corps in 1814. In that historical context, the first military trumpeters, known as Trombetti, were enlisted. From this original nucleus, the Fanfara of the 3rd Carabinieri Battalion “Lombardia” gradually emerged over the years, adopting its current name in 2014. While retaining the term “Fanfara” in line with military tradition, the current formation has expanded into a full wind orchestra, including woodwinds and percussion.
The Fanfara does not limit itself to traditional duties during parades, ceremonies, and military tattoos but also engages in an intense concert activity. Its repertoire ranges from military marches to classical, modern, and contemporary pieces. This ensemble often represents Italy abroad, performing in tours across various countries, including Germany, Spain, France, Bulgaria, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, China, and Canada.
Unconventionally for a military music group, the Fanfara has taken part in major Jazz and Soul festivals, collaborating with internationally renowned singers and instrumentalists.
The ensemble is composed of over thirty musicians from various Italian conservatories and is conducted by Chief Marshal Andrea Bagnolo, who holds degrees in “Instrumentation and Composition for Wind Orchestra,” “Wind Orchestra Conducting,” “Applied Music,” and “Composition.” He began studying piano as a child and later developed a passion for jazz and composition. A member of SIAE since 2003, he boasts an extensive portfolio of original works and arrangements published by various music publishers.
