Brass Band of the Cavalry Brigade “Pozzuolo del Friuli”
The Brass Band of the Cavalry Brigade “Pozzuolo del Friuli” was established on May 22, 1992, from the dissolved regimental cavalry fanfares, carrying forward their values, spirit, and traditions. Among the various airs and compositions performed during its performances, the “March of Prince Eugene,” an ancient score depicting the military feats of the brave Savoy Prince, was adopted in 1937 for the Cavalry Corps.
Today, the Fanfare and bands represent an important expression of military culture, and the one from the Cavalry Brigade is recognized as one of the most prestigious, acclaimed both in military ceremonies and civil contexts, where it is often invited to collaborate with other musical ensembles. In particular, the Fanfare wears the historical uniform dating back to the late 1800s, dark turquoise with a yellow collar, the color of the Genoa Cavalry Regiment (4th), the oldest unit of the Brigade. On their heads, they wear the characteristic helmet of the dragoons and line cavalry.
It is currently composed of non-commissioned officers, ranks, and soldiers on fixed-term service, all with musical duties.
The repertoire of the Brass Band of the Cavalry Brigade “Pozzuolo del Friuli” ranges from military music and pieces characteristic of the Cavalry Corps to original works for band, transcriptions of operas, symphonies, and light music. Frequently invited to perform before the highest national and international authorities, it has received countless praises and awards. The most recent being the international music award presented by the Opera Principessa di Piemonte association with the following motivation: “Among the custodians of the musical traditions of the Cavalry Corps. Distinguished in the dazzling historical uniforms of the ‘Genova Cavalry 4’ Regiment, always present in the most important national and international military ceremonies.”
Finally, the “Pozzuolo del Friuli” signed a memorandum of understanding last year with the “Tartini” Conservatory of Trieste, allowing the Fanfare members to attend Master Classes in various musical instruments, thus promoting their professional development and continuous improvement.
It is currently directed by Sergeant Major Cosimo Taurisano.
