Vespucci & America’s Cup: Two Icons of the Sea Meet in New York

From the crowds gathered on the quay to the on-board visits, the public welcomed the first Canadian stop of Amerigo Vespucci with warmth, curiosity and enthusiasm.

Wrapped in mist, Amerigo Vespucci sails up the St. Lawrence River towards Québec City, the first Canadian port of call of the 2026 North America Campaign.

During the Boston stop, the Cadets of the Livorno Naval Academy visited two of the world’s most prestigious universities: Harvard and the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). The exchange continued on board Amerigo Vespucci, where Italian students from Harvard and MIT were welcomed by the crew and the Commanding Officer, Captain (N) Nicasio Falica, before concluding with the Commanding Officer’s Lectio Magistralis at MIT.

As part of Sail Boston, the fifth and final stop of Sail250, Amerigo Vespucci took part in a major maritime celebration that brought together tall ships, naval vessels, crews and visitors from around the world. From the Parade of Sail and on-board visits to meetings with the Italian community and students from Harvard and MIT, the Boston stop strengthened the bond between Italy and the United States through the shared culture of the sea.

On board Amerigo Vespucci, the America’s Cup trophy returned to New York as part of the 2026 North America Campaign, in the presence of the Italian Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi. A symbolic encounter between the World’s Most Beautiful Ship and the oldest sporting trophy still contested today, united by the shared values of the sea, courage, and teamwork. A bond that already looks ahead to the next edition of the America’s Cup, to be held in Italy, in the Gulf of Naples.

From 4 to 8 July 2026, the Amerigo Vespucci is berthed at Pier 86 to take part in SAIL4th 250, the celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The New York stop brings together tall ships and naval vessels from around the world for the spectacular international parade through New York Harbor.

After crossing the Atlantic, the Amerigo Vespucci has arrived in Baltimore, its first stop in the United States as part of the North America Campaign 2026. From 25 to 29 June, it will be one of the highlights of Sail250 Maryland & Airshow Baltimore and will open its doors to the public.

The North America Campaign 2026 of Amerigo Vespucci officially got underway from Porto Antico in Genoa, in the presence of leading civil and military authorities. A 156-day journey across the United States and Canada to bring Italian culture, dialogue and excellence around the world.

The journey of the Amerigo Vespucci becomes a docuseries: “Vespucci, il viaggio più lungo” tells the story of the Ship’s World Tour through the lens of an Italy travelling across the globe.
Broadcast in prime time on Rai 3 on Friday 17 and Friday 24 April, the docuseries is also available as a box set from 17 April on RaiPlay.

In the magnificent setting of the Colosseum Archaeological Park, and in the presence of institutional representatives, the incredible results of the initiative ‘Vespucci World Tour and Villaggio Italia 2023-2025’ were presented.
