GUARDIA DI FINANZA MUSIC BAND
The Musical Band of the Guardia di Finanza
The Music Band of the Guardia di Finanza was officially established in 1926, reuniting in a single ensemble the various brass bands present in some of the Corps’ Departments since 1883. Today, it is a permanent artistic group formed by a Conductor Maestro, a Deputy Conductor Maestro and 102 musicians coming from various Italian Music Academies and recruited through a careful selection procedure.
During its long and intense period of activity, the Band has performed at the most renowned Italian musical institutions, including the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, La Scala in Milan, the San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, the Massimo and Politeama in Palermo, the Fenice in Venice, the Bellini in Catania, the Flavio Vespasiano in Rieti and the Petruzzelli in Bari.
Moreover, numerous concerts held to celebrate extraordinary events took place in Rome in the Basilicas of San Giovanni in Laterano, Santa Maria Maggiore and Massenzio, as well as the memorable performance in the splendid Basilica di San Pietro attended by Pope John Paul II.
The Band has collaborated with some of the most famous Italian and international symphony orchestras: the RAI in Turin, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, as well as with world-famous artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Katia Ricciarelli, Cecilia Gasdia, Renzo Arbore, Pooh, Gianni Morandi, Albano Carrisi and many other show business personalities.
In addition, it has often performed in foreign countries, such as Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Belgium, France, the United States and the United Arab Emirates.
For example, in 2002 in New York, on the occasion of the Columbus Day celebrations, the band performed an engaging and emotional concert at Ground Zero.
The participation in the 92nd Formula One Grand Prix held in 2021 at the Autodromo of Monza was also memorable. The concert, taking place on the historic circuit to mark the centenary of its inauguration, provided a unique and captivating experience. Finally, their presence on the final episode of the 72nd edition of the Sanremo Music Festival was equally remarkable.
Its vast and constantly updated repertoire, which includes original pieces and transcriptions, ranges from classical to contemporary music and can be considered one of the most significant and complete.
Since its establishment, the Music Band has been directed by Maestros Giuseppe Manente, Antonio D’Elia, Olivio di Domenico, Fulvio Creux, Gino Bergamini, and since 2002 the direction has been entrusted to Colonel Leonardo Laserra Ingrosso.
