“TORNA A CASA” EVENT

PROFILE OF THE EXCELLENCE

Born as a symbolic call for Italian emigrants to rediscover their bond with their homeland, the project weaves together art, memory, and identity.

Torna a Casa” (Come Back Home) is a project by Io Compro Siciliano/Il Made in Sicily and the Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles, created in collaboration with the Directorate General for Italians Abroad (DGIT) of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, within the framework of the “Turismo delle Radici” (Roots Tourism) initiative. The production is curated by Io Compro Siciliano, Savatteri Produzioni, VediPalermo, Innovazione and Balarm, under the artistic direction of Giovanni Callea, Celestino Drago, Davide Morici, Marco Savatteri and Raffaella Valentini. The project is supported by the Region of Sicily (Departments for Productive Activities; Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity; Agriculture and Mediterranean Fisheries; Family and Social Policies), the Archaeological Park of the Valley of the Temples, the Cities of Palermo and Catania, UNPLI and USEF, with contributions from the Prosecco DOC, Sicilia DOC and Chianti Wine consortia.

Il Made in Sicily is a narrative initiative that promotes Sicily and Sicilian culture through storytelling on social media, events, projects, and outreach programmes.

THE EXCELLENCE WITHIN THE VILLAGGI ITALIA AND VILLAGGI IN ITALIA

Within the Villaggi Italia, the event unfolded through three key moments. The first was an artistic performance, featuring eighteen performers — dancers, singers, actors, and acrobats — under the direction of Marco Savatteri. This was followed by an institutional and narrative segment, during which representatives of Italian institutions and members of the Italian diaspora signed the Book of Roots, a sort of “reverse Ellis Island” that celebrates the unbreakable bond with Italy. The third moment was dedicated to gastronomy, with tastings of dishes prepared by Italian chefs based in the United States, coordinated by Celestino Drago, as a tribute to the Italian Cuisine’s candidacy for inclusion in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

In this way, food became a cultural and emotional bridge, the great connective fabric that unites Italians across the world and represents Italy through its finest expressions of excellence.
