Torna a Casa (Come Back Home) is a narrative performance, an invitation, a celebration, a call. This event symbolically invites Italian emigrants around the world to return to their homeland. The event consists of three parts:
An artistic part with 18 performers (dancers, singers, actors, acrobats) directed by Marco Savatteri.
An institutional and narrative part, where institutions and emigrants sign the Book of Roots. This book, representing a sort of reverse Ellis Island, is dedicated to those who left, and the signing underscores the indissoluble bond with their homeland.
The third part features a tasting of foods prepared by Italian chefs in the United States, coordinated by Celestino Drago, a key figure in Italian cuisine. This aims to strengthen and celebrate the candidacy of Italian cuisine for UNESCO heritage status. Food is a major connective tissue of our country abroad and one of the greatest places of union and representation of Italy in the world.
Torna a Casa is a project by Io Compro Siciliano / Made in Sicily, and the Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles, in collaboration with the Directorate General for Italians Abroad (DGIT) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, responsible for the “Tourism of Roots” initiative.
