The Arena di Verona Foundation, one of the fourteen Italian Lyric-Symphonic Foundations, organizes the most important open-air opera festival in the world, held every summer at the Arena di Verona. This extraordinary Roman amphitheater, along with the myth of Juliet and Romeo, has made Verona one of the most beloved and visited cities in Italy. Every year, from June to September, the Arena hosts approximately 50 opera performances, galas, and concerts, presenting the most famous titles of the opera repertoire, with particular attention to the works of Giuseppe Verdi. Since 1913, when the Festival was inaugurated with Aida, considered the symbol of the Arena and staged 749 times, the Arena stage has welcomed the greatest performers from the international scene, enchanting millions of spectators from all over the world, who continue to experience a unique event in this magical open-air space under the stars. For over fifty years, the Arena di Verona Foundation has been distinguished by its stable artistic ensemble, comprising an orchestra, choir, technicians, and highly skilled administrative staff. In addition to the prestigious summer festival, the Foundation organizes Winter Seasons of Opera, Ballet, and Symphony at the Teatro Filarmonico, as well as international concerts at major cultural institutions and events dedicated to young people, schools, and enthusiasts. Currently, the President of the Foundation is the Mayor of Verona, Damiano Tommasi, who has held the position since 2022, while the role of Superintendent has been held by Cecilia Gasdia since 2018.
