CONI: THE OLYMPIC TORCHES

The Olympic torch is one of the most iconic and recognisable symbols of the Olympic Games. It is far more than a simple object: it embodies universal values such as brotherhood, peace, determination, and mutual respect.
In its architectural design, the torch brings together symbolic, social, and cultural meanings with a profound sense of identity. Within its sixty or so centimetres, it encapsulates over 120 years of Olympic history, reflecting the creative genius of world-renowned designers — from Philippe Starck to Pininfarina — who have reinterpreted its form in a contemporary key without ever betraying its original spirit.
The use of the flame dates back to ancient Greece, where it burned continuously in Olympia throughout the Games as a symbol of divine power. In its modern incarnation, this tradition has been enriched by the Olympic Torch Relay, which accompanies the flame on a long journey across cities and nations, carried by torchbearers until it reaches the opening ceremony. Each stage celebrates anticipation and renews the shared spirit of the Olympics throughout the world.
