The ship has returned to the Eastern Hemisphere after 11 months of sailing in the Western Hemisphere, the same hemisphere where Italy is located.
Giotto. The Scrovegni Chapel
“Giotto. Master Innovator who ‘reduced painting to the modern’. A filmic and sonic experience where the Scrovegni Chapel is narrated through multimedia sequences of iconic images accompanied by an original soundtrack.
The story begins on February 6th 1300 when Enrico Scrovegni, a rich banker from Padua, purchased the area of the ancient Roman Arena to build a sumptuous palace, connected to a chapel that he endowed as a private oratory and as sepulchral monument. It is a small single nave space (29.88m long, 8.41m wide, 12.65m high) built between 1302 and 1303. At thirty-six years old, Giotto was commissioned to illustrate the monument following a highly complex iconographic program: he set the stage to revolutionary innovations that will make the Scrovegni Chapel one of the greatest masterpieces of Italian and Western art.
Space, Perspective, Humanity, Emotional Yield, Patronage, Genius loci as spirit of place are the perceptions that the filmic experience of Magister Art renders through a journey inside the Chapel with a high impact of involvement. The declination of the contents follows a dramaturgical and musical narrative, in the best Italian film tradition, and the experimentation of visual, multimedia and graphic animation effects. Visitors are thus immersed in a unique and valuable experience, accompanied by a specially composed original soundtrack.
The Scrovegni Chapel with its 14th century frescoed cycles is part of Padua Urbs Picta, a UNESCO World Heritage site, composed by eight religious and secular building complexes.
The experience was created thanks to the collaboration with the Culture Department of the Municipality of Padua.
